A Power Bi Dashboard
To Navigate the U.S. Landscape as OPT STEM Graduate
Several reasons motivated the creation of this dashboard. Overall, it demonstrates how publicly available data can be turned into valuable insights for individual purposes.
Finding a job in the U.S. as a non-U.S. citizen can be challenging, especially for young professionals. However, the news about the $100,000 H-1B fee presents an opportunity for prospective STEM OPT graduates.
With the goal of finding a job after graduation and paired with available H-1B data, I created this dashboard, which allows filtering by various criteria related to job search and networking opportunities.
Above, filters restrict the dashboard to roles in consulting (occupation categories and job titles)
Filter examples: first view selects New York (state); second selects McKinsey & Company (employer name)
Disclaimer: The visuals above are static screenshots of an interactive, filter-driven Power BI dashboard. Because the live report cannot be embedded here, the written insights are summarized at the bottom of the page and reflect the specific filter selections shown in these screenshots. Additional insights are not hard-coded on the dashboard itself, since any change in filters alters the outputs and conclusions; your results will vary with different selections.
Selected Key Insights
Based on the filters applied in the images above
Sponsor Hubs are Concentrated
States like California or New York lead, with states like Massachusetts close behind.
Implication: Prioritizing outreach for consulting roles in CA/NY first. For an East Coast focus, NY, MA, NJ form a strong cluster.
Baseline Wage Band is Mid-$70k to Mid-$80k
Depending on the chosen filters, medians range around $75kâ$85k (e.g., $74,974 for consulting roles in NY).
Implication: Using this as a floor for expectations and negotiations.
